Mental Health & Wellbeing
The mental health and wellbeing of the whole school community (pupils, parents/carers and staff) are fundamental to our school philosophy and ethos. We aim to identify needs and offer support in a secure environment, providing children with a toolkit for life. We recognise that children’s mental health is crucial to their wellbeing and can affect their learning and achievement.
At Hale Prep, we want all children to:
- feel confident in themselves and know that their thoughts and opinions are valued;
- be able to understand and express a range of emotions appropriately;
- be able to make and maintain strong relationships with others;
- cope with stresses that arise in daily life, and manage setbacks;
- feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries;
- learn and achieve.
To ensure this, we have a number of practices and support structures in place that promote pupils’ emotional wellbeing, personal development and academic success, including:
- The Peaceful Pod is a calm, supportive space where children can come to regulate their emotions, reflect on their feelings, and receive support when they need time, reassurance or help to talk through worries.
- After-school clubs specifically designed to promote mindfulness and wellbeing, including Mindful Movement and Breathwork.
- All children receive weekly PSHE and Ethics lessons, which promote personal development, emotional wellbeing, respectful relationships and moral understanding. Year 6 also receive a weekly session dedicated to wellbeing and resilience.
- Weekly assemblies which promote shared values, celebrate achievements, and encourage children to reflect on positive behaviour and personal growth.
- Regular check-ins during form time, giving pupils opportunities to share concerns, reflect on their wellbeing, and seek support from trusted adults.
- A warm, positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages kindness, respect and a strong sense of belonging.
Our staff Wellbeing Team is:
Miss Rodgers, Mrs Halliwell, Mrs Busby, Mrs Leyland and Miss Naylor.
