Computing
Our Curriculum Aims
- High-quality Computing education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of Computer Science, Information Technology and overall digital literacy.
- Technology has changed our lives and is vital to the world's future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of scientific knowledge, methods, processes and use.
Our children are taught by a specialist who can access many new and exciting technologies that provide rich and memorable learning experiences. Computing is a broad and varied subject with many elements and aspects, from writing with digital literacy to maths when writing code. For example, 'Scratch' will require children to use their knowledge of the four-quadrant axis, angles and the four operations as they create more complex code.
We believe in developing our pupils' skills in computing from an early age. Starting in infants, where the subject is taught in half classes to ensure the children recieve even more focussed attention and instruction. Computing is taught by a specialist teacher in the computer suite, developing the skills, knowledge and understanding to exploit the advantages technology has to offer fully. These acquired skills and knowledge are utilised in all curriculum areas, ranging from maths and science to history and geography.
A crucial part of computing is e-safety; year groups will have a block of e-safety learning that teaches them how to be respectful online and protect themselves. This equips them with the skills, knowledge and understanding to make the right choices when interacting with others online.
